Hi,

WHY COLLECT CELEBRITY AUTOGRAPHS?

Like so many of you, I admire many celebrities for the talent, hard work and determination they put into what they do.  They are heroes in their way, inspirational achievers whose work has appealed to the masses.   They are generally very busy people with staff to handle their mail, including requests for autographs.  When you consider the millions of people that know of them and the volume of mail many of them receive, it becomes very special when you hold a celebrity's attention for a few moments and he or she gives you a lasting inspirational memento - an item inscribed to you.

Rather than tuck them away in binders, I'm going display my originals at home for their inspirational value they have to me.  When I get discouraged, I'll just look at my wall of heroes and draw inspiration from their accomplishments.  Then I'll smile and get back to work.

So please do keep coming back here, dear reader. I'll update this page with  new autographs and information learned from other collectors and books.  And some celebrity stories along the way.

Enjoy!  Be inspired!

Here they are, so far...

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Douglas Kirkland

For over 40 years, he has been one of the world's top celebrity photographers and more.  He is truly a celebrity in his own right.  To get a look at his work, go to his website, have a look at this page, or go to his website:  http://www.douglaskirkland.com   Or get hold of his awesome large book (12" x 16.5"): LIGHT YEARS: Three Decades Photographing Among the Stars.  (Thames and Hudson, 1989) and learn more about his prolific career as you view fantastic images of familiar stars - from Marilyn Monroe to Tom Cruise.

This image is of Douglas on the set of James Cameron's Titanic (photo © Scott Browning).  His book James Cameron's Titanic became the first photo book ever to make the New York Times Best Sellers list.  One of my prized possessions is a letter Douglas wrote to me while he was in Halifax on a shoot during filming of the movie.

I'm lucky to call Douglas and his wife Francoise friends.   I met with Douglas a few while in Hollywood during the world journey.  Over the years, Douglas has signed several items for me, including two photos shown on the same page - Elizabeth Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The one of Liz is from a session in Las Vegas in 1961 when he got his "passport photo" of her: "With it I crossed the border from obscurity, and my career began."

Mr. Universe, real estate millionaire, movie superstar, staunch activist and humanitarian, Governor of California.... President Schwarzenegger?  Arnold stands as someone who has always set high goals for himself and worked hard and smart to achieve them.  And he is someone who truly does "put something back".

I believe I was exceptionally lucky to get this authentic inscribed photo because I've heard that others have tried and get back only a form letter.  He does sell signed autographed items through an online auction via his official website with proceeds charities.

On the www.schwarzenegger.com FAQ page, you will find this response to requests for autographs:

HOW CAN I GET AN AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO OF ARNOLD?

Although Arnold is very appreciative of his fans and the terrific letters he receives, unfortunately, he is unable to fulfill every autograph request through his Web site.

May we kindly suggest you log-on to the auction section of www.schwarzenegger.com, where you can purchase many assorted autographed items? All of the net proceeds go to help benefit The Inner-City Games Foundation and Special Olympics. Arnold encourages his fans to join with him in his efforts to improve the quality of life for inner-city children and those with special needs.

If the nature of your request is a unique circumstance, please send a detailed letter to:

The cover of the May 1993 issue of Rider magazine.  Sent via the autograph department of The Tonight Show (learned about it via the show's website).  Sent 24 Feb 04 - received 9 Aug 04 - five and a half months, but well worth the wait!

As well as being one of the best and hardest working comedians in the business - and who also happens to genuinely be a hell of a nice guy - Jay is an officando of classic cars and motorcycles.  He has a personal collection of over 40 motorcycles and numerous classic cars.  Now if I can only convince him to add a HONDA ELITE 250 to his collection!
